SurvivorScotland is hosting a free, two day learning event exploring the impact of childhood trauma for adults. Speakers will include Michael Matheson, Minister for Public Health, Heather Coady national co-ordinator of the Cedar Project and Katherine Gottlieb, CEO of Southcentral Foundation, Alaska who will talk about the Family Wellness Warriors Initiative; a community based programme for adults to address the effects of child abuse, child neglect and domestic violence. The Scottish Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has been working in partnership with CELCIS to prepare an InterAction on Justice for Historic Abuse of Children in Care. Two InterActions took place, one on 28th February 2013 and a second on 20th June 2013. Both involved over 40 participants from government, providers of services, professional bodies, and survivors/victims of abuse. Views of survivors/victims and care leavers fed into both of these events and a draft Action Plan has now been produced. In order to ensure that survivors/victims and care leavers have a further opportunity to feed in their views on the Draft Action Plan, an Open Event will be held on 12th December 2013 in Glasgow.
